BARTY-BART TAKES (AND BRINGS) THE CAKE

* One of the TD’s only desires as he went into hiding for the winter was a request that most excellent golfer and cake baker, Barty-Bart, bake him a cake. Low and behold, Bart and his lovely wife Melinda stopped by with a cake that “takes the cake”.

Channeling Bart's inner Julia Child, they presented TD and his Mrs. with the rich and delectable treat who’s last portion was eaten yesterday (you’re too late). “It’s great to have friends…especially those who can bake. Bart may be a 5 handicap, but his best work comes from 'scratch'”, TD was heard to say. **

As an aside (and according to Wikipedia) the phrase “takes the cake” originated during slavery where those enslaved created a dance (cake walk) to mimic the formal movements of those who enslaved them where the winner…you guessed it…”takes the cake”. TD was unaware of the origin of this phrase prior to doing this necessary research. Later, white-folk coopted the phrase to describe something “really good” or “really bad”. TD
