DUNDONALD LINKS – DUN FOR DONALD’S ILK
Share

One of the newer golfing offerings in this part of the world is Dundonald Links. The goal of this course was to “impress”. TD is not sure whom or how, but somebody really tried.

Campbell, the starter, was a great guy and the only person to whom TD could really relate. In the pro-shop, TD asked to be paired up with a twosome or threesome. A somewhat indignant response came, “Oh sir, we don’t do that”. Even after TD let them know that he was scared to go it alone, it made no difference. Therefore, he would only have himself with whom to converse for the front nine and this was depressing as he had heard it all before. But, as luck would have it, four very nice gents allowed him to play through on the 10th and on the 11th hole he came upon a twosome that turned out to be Gareth and Thomas, the father son pairing whom he had played Prestwick earlier in the week. The newly formed threesome went on to soldier through a rainy day where slippery grips were “a slippin”.

TD observed (on this par 3) a group of 8, four “executive” golfers and four caddies and no one hit the green from 135 yards. This in and of itself was “impressive”. He somewhat expected to see DJT in there somewhere. But then TD recalled that he has his own club nearby and charges 1,000 pounds to play. No character, not TD’s style. This course appeared to have been substantially manufactured and was not to the TD’s liking…if you didn’t already get the drift.
