Those watching "Real Golf" over the weekend were exposed to a couple of treats. German Freddy Schott wins his first DP World Tour title beating Scotsman Callum Hill and Saudi Patrick Reed (yes, he's back) in a two-hole play-off in "downtown" Bahrain. Fellow PGA Tour defector Sergio Garcia came in fourth...he's back too. THEN, on the big stage, journeyman Englishman (and PGA Tour journeyman) Justin Rose put on a wire-to-wire clinic at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torey Pines (downtown LaJolla) winning by seven (7), yes seven (7) strokes, finishing at 23 under and hitting just under 81% of greens in regulation. TD was ecstatic to see both these tournaments and see "real golfers" victorious.
Hearing about Brooks Koepka's "re-entry" to the PGA Tour, TD felt it necessary to research how Reed and Garcia got into the DP World Tour field at Bahrain (he's probably been sleeping through most of this) as he wondered if the DP's just capitulated to the Saudi's; but NOOOOOOO! These boys were required to pay a bunch of money (which TD hears the Saudi's paid for them but are going to quit doing so in 2026), go to confession and say 10 Our Fathers and 25 Hail Mary's. TD recalls being at Royal Melbourne (2019) when the Aussies went rogue on Reed (for his earlier cheat-ery) and his caddie/brother-in-law was ejected from the grounds for the balance of the week. Even at his age, TD doesn't forget stuff like that.
TD-ism for the week: "We gonna call his momma!" This "ism" comes in handy when a fellow competitor makes a truly unexpected good shot.
