IF THE HOUSE IS A ROCKIN’, WE BE DORNOCH-IN
TD and his “band” darkened the doors of Dornoch on Wednesday last. Once again, this walk along the preeminent golf attraction of The Highlands was an exciting and fulfilling experience. A new addition this year, the new 15M Pound Clubhouse (done in Scottish style, plain, rustic, no golden toilets), is graced by a bronze statue of Donald Ross and the Duke of Sutherland; both instrumental in the creation and building of the most upscale offering in The North.
Golf at Dornoch dates back to the earliest days of golf in The Highlands and the fabled tract is thought to be the 13th-15th oldest in the world. Dornoch has consistently ranked in the Top20 of golf courses in the world and some ratings agencies have placed it in the Top 5.
The vistas at Dornoch are unending and gorse is one of the courses’ main defenses. The wind was “down” on this day; barely 10-15mph and the round went rather smoothly. TD and Timmy had played Dornoch in 2025, but TD was disturbed by a young caddy who obviously had a hot date. This year, playing in our own foursome and knowing the course a little better, all the stars seemed to be in line.
The foursome, TD, Timmy, Randy and Greggy were all smiles, not only at the beginning of the round, but also at the end. TD was happy to hear from the starter, “it’s a good day to ignore the score card”. Thus, he discarded his about the fifth hole.
