PLAYING OUT WEST (OF EDINBURGH)
Share

In his quest to discover golf in the western reaches of Ayrshire, TD exited the plane, sped through customs, and immediately headed out to Scotland’s near-westernmost reaches to discover links golf on the Firth of Clyde. There was no disappointment as he was met by buddy Callum Macaulay of LomondGolfTours.com. TD has always “gone it alone” when traveling to Scotland, but, for the first time, relied on a professional to arrange the first week’s golf, room and board. The two bonded immediately and golf “was on”.

Callum played college golf at Ole Miss and would choose the Dallas area if he was ever to relocate to the US. He graciously suffered through that which only the TD can bring to a round (at least fresh off the airplane) and the two had great conversation about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (in both) the states and the UK. Callum has two young boys who are “winners” at golf and, true to his heritage, “golf is life”. It was one of the most pleasant rounds the old TD has ever enjoyed in Scotland and West Kilbride (just north of Ayr) was the most genuine of links tracts, with all 18 holes playing in crosswinds that even the TD learned to navigate (as usual, about the 15th hole). Anyway, he broke 100 and double digits is always his goal in such conditions. Callum probably shot right around par. Yay!!!
